One thing that is certain in the world of a PR and communications consultancy is the huge variety of issues, campaigns and ideas we experience and get to grips with month on month – even in markets that we know well. And 2018 has been no different. It has been about launches, recognition, making a difference and, as always, about learning.
It is thanks to the fantastic team here at Flagship, always willing to put in the time to stretch themselves, learn new things, do their absolute best for the client, and provide outstanding work, that we have had such highs and successes this year.
Here are just some of our favourite highlights:
Launches and events
In April, we launched Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest ship Norwegian Bliss, taking 55 top tier media contacts across cruise, travel trade, national, consumer, lifestyle and social media influencers to enjoy a taste of Bliss during a two-day inaugural sailing from Germany to Southampton. By providing opportunities to experience as much of the innovative new ship as possible, we achieved over 130 pieces of coverage, with a reach of 315,444,340 readers from the inaugural event alone!
This year saw the launch of the first Global Recycling Day – a new initiative for The Bureau of International Recycling – with events from London’s Carnaby Street to Ulaanbaatar. When we woke up on the morning of 18 March 2018 and saw on Twitter picture of 20 monks in Mongolia holding up posters for Global Recycling Day we knew just what we had helped create – a movement which cascaded across the world. As team lead Sophy Norris said “It’s not often we cry with joy about work, but that snowy Sunday morning, I most certainly did.”

We love to put thought provoking research at the heart of many of our campaigns, and this year three projects truly stood out for us.
This year was the seventh year running in the UK and third in Europe where we launched the Workforce View – a content campaign for our client ADP that drives media coverage, builds brand awareness and enables the sales team to have meaningful conversations with clients.
We helped Steelcase craft a creativity campaign that showed how working environments can be conducive to fostering creativity.
We positioned our cyber security client ESET as the experts on artificial intelligence following the launch of our research-led white paper – ‘Is the AI hype putting businesses at risk?’. With our global study into the attitudes of IT decision makers, we created a thought leadership campaign and secured high profile speaker slots at a tech event.
A special mention goes to Flagship’s Senior Account Director Belinda Hallworth, who was named at one of TTG’s 30 Under 30 travel leaders of tomorrow earlier this year.
‘I feel very proud to have been recognised by my travel industry peers in this way and have met some inspirational young leaders who I know I will keeping in touch with once the year is over and the new 30 Under 30 are selected.’
We were also very pleased to support charities throughout the year, such as the Family Holiday Association either through our own activities such as a bake sale, supporting their Xmas Advent-tures and the FHA Regatta, where we took our clients out on the Solent for a day of competitive racing earlier in the summer, coming 2nd!
We have also been working with a relatively new charity – the Family Stability Network (FASTN) helping them articulate their values and positioning statement in the sensitive, but important area of family and relationships. It has been a challenging, but always fascinating project, in an area which needs putting on the national agenda.
Crisis and issue management has been a long term specialism of Flagship, and once again in 2018 we were on hand to help clients either prepare for or weather some significant incidents. From scenario planning and training, to managing local media interest to major national and international incidents, we have been at the side of several clients guiding and advising them in the best way to handle the press interest and maintain the integrity of their businesses.
All in all, an amazing 2018 and here’s to an even bigger and better 2019!
