“Life on Mars? “
Thales UK tasked Flagship with the promotion of the MARSBalloon Project, a free initiative for school students and science clubs that enables them to experiment with how objects would fare in Mars-like conditions.
Run by Thales Alenia Space and supported by several local MPs, the project allows school children to test the response of certain items or materials (examples include bread, slime, popcorn, yeast, dog food and Sea Monkeys) to conditions similar to those found on the surface of Mars. The MARSBalloon project aims to encourage young people to consider a career in STEM, key to industries such as Technology and Engineering that are currently facing a serious skills gap.
This year’s project saw over 100 capsules launched for a four-hour flight into space. At around 30km high, the balloon burst and a parachute was deployed that brought the capsules back to Earth ready to be collected by the team.
Flagship brought the producers from BBC Points West to interview the kids and a teacher from Orchard School in Bristol, as well as a spokesperson from Thales.
Brave Stop Violence Campaign from Anfi Group
Check out this powerful video from our sometime client, and long-term friend, Anfi Group. It spotlights the issue of domestic violence – a cause Anfi has championed since the tragic death of their employee, Yuerna Lopez, a chambermaid who was killed by her partner two years ago. The moving video features Anfi employees and several celebrity and sporting ambassadors, including Manchester City’s David Silva (whose mother used to be a chambermaid at the same resort).
Please do watch the video or, even better, share it on your own social networks. Anfi wants to reach as many people as it can and spread the “Stop Violence” message across the world.

AI – so good we did it twice
Hannah Kerslake recently attended Cision’s CommsCon x INSIGHTS event, which focused on the use of AI in PR, a topic that is becoming increasingly important across marketing (see Jo Kenworthy’s post below). She posted a really useful LinkedIn post on her key learnings, which you can read in full here.
Jo also attend an AI-focused event – Computing’s AI and Machine Learning Live – which aimed to unveil some of the key developments and challenges in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Attended by professionals from a variety of industries, there were a number of insightful speakers who gave their opinions on topics such as AI and ethics, the employability skills gap, AI and GDPR, as well as some really interesting user cases from companies such as Marks & Spencer and IKEA.
Flagship’s Radhika Sharma has shared her thoughts on Gary John Bishop’s book “Unf*k Yourself”. The book outlines strategies to harness positive thinking, embrace the learning that comes from taking risks and enable us to reach our full potential. Definitely worth checking out.
